Basic Vocal Method—Teaching with CD, $20

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Can I improve my singing voice?" "Is there a right and wrong way to sing?" "What is the difference between contemporary and classical vocal production?"

These are just a few of the questions that students of singing ask as they begin their journey toward a more accomplished voice. Throughout my years of teaching both privately and publicly, I have witnessed many students progress from mediocre hobby singing into confident, professional performers. How? By developing the combination of applied talent and learned technique.

It is true that we are born with varying levels of vocal talent; however, what a person does in the application of their talent can far exceed the boundaries of the imagination, if a person is willing to work hard. The hard work of singing is rooted in the development of learned vocal technique. The method herein seeks to assist you in the application of your talent and the improvement of your vocal technique through four foundational building blocks:

Foundation #1: Correct Understanding. Although music has changed throughout the years, the instrument of the voice has not; therefore, the vocal method of the masters of singing must be explored in order to achieve vocal health and ability. Likewise, whether singing classical or contemporary music the principles of vocal production remain the same.

Foundation #2: Proper Breathing. Breathing is the starting point to producing vocal sound. It is to the voice what fuel is to an engine.

Foundation #3: Expansive Resonance. Resonance is an important technical focus whereby the voice is expanded to its maximum capacity of tone, volume, and diction.

Foundation #4: Developed Agility. Agility is the expansion of the range and facility of the voice.
